Desde os Beatles não acontecia nada igual ao furacão Thriller, um disco que passou 80 semanas na lista da Billboard (a Bíblia do show business mundial). O disco impulsionou a indústria, que deu uma volta por cima e voltou a investir forte em artistas com potencial. Michael Jackson tornou-se a personalidade mais comentada da época.
